Job Description

Work Term: Permanent Work Language: English Hours: 36 to 40 hours per week Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year Tasks Load, unload and transport construction materials Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks shoring and barricades Mix, pour and spread materials Assist heavy equipment operators Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction Assist in drilling and blasting rock on construction sites Assist in framing houses, erecting walls and building roofs Level earth to fine grade specifications Pave and rake asphalt Assist in demolishing buildings Clean and pile salvaged materials Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction Direct traffic at or near construction sites Read and interpret blueprints Perform routine maintenance work Instruct apprentices Clean and lubricate cranes Operate mobile and tower cranes to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials Operate pile driving cranes to drive pilings into earth to provide support for buildings and other structures Operate gantry cranes to load and unload ship cargo at port side Operate cranes equipped with dredging attachments to dredge waterways and other areas Operate locomotive cranes to move objects and materials at railway yards Operate bridge or overhead cranes to lift, move and place plant machinery and materials Operate offshore oil rig cranes to unload and reload supply vessels Operate cranes mounted on boats or barges to lift, move and place equipment and materials Operate dragline cranes to expose coal seams and ore deposits at open pit mines Perform pre-operational inspection, and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting Assemble tower cranes on site Work conditions and physical capabilities Fast-paced environment Tight deadlines Repetitive tasks Handling heavy loads Physically demanding Manual dexterity Overtime required Work under pressure Attention to detail Hand-eye co-ordination Sound discrimination Sitting Personal suitability Client focus Efficient interpersonal skills Flexibility Reliability Team player Accurate Excellent oral communication Dependability Hardworking
